New York Times bestselling author Elmore Leonard has written over forty books, including four about U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, the captivating hero of the hit FX series Justified. Now three of Leonard’s best novels—Get Shorty, Tishomingo Blues, and Killshot—are together in one classic ebook collection.

I'm a long-time Elmore Leonard reader and recently had the hankering to revisit one of my favorites, Get Shorty and bought it for my kindle. My first impression was the publisher has really over-priced these kindle titles. I chose the three-book package because it was a little better value than over $10 for a single title that I have in the form of a $5.99 paperback somewhere in my basement. Here are thoughts on the three books:

Get Shorty - a Leonard Elmore classic, with all of the typical components of a great thriller. Entertaining and funny.
Tishomingo Blues - I remember reading this when it first came out and didn't really like it. This time around I found it much better, but the story gets so convoluted that it collapses on itself around the three-quarters mark.
Killshot - not one of Elmore Leonard's best, but still pretty good. I wouldn't buy it solo but as part of the package it works.

Besides the price, another annoying factor is the number of typos, especially in Get Shorty. My theory is that the publisher did not have a final copy of the book in electronic form, so they used that seems like the file that was the galley proof. Typos aren't that big a deal if I'm reading an indie book that cost $2.99 but when you pay basically print price for a kindle book, the expectation is you are paying for professional editing and proof reading.

Elmore Leonard Classic 3Book Collection Get Shorty Tishomingo Blues Killshot edition by Elmore Leonard Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

My husband, a longtime Elmore fan, was jealous when I started reading the novels he'd read long ago. I love every one more than the last. But the three in this book are as good as it gets. Juicy characters, a plot at once natural in its meanderings as life itself, yet intensifying one's curiosity steadily. And always, really good endings. Never as expected, always better.
I really can't remember the last time I couldn't wait to get home so I could read a book, well three actually. I say "Outstanding" because I think this collection is one of the best purchases I've made so far. All three books so different, but similar enough that I feel like I've just spent a lifetime in crime. Elmore Leonard raised the bar with these books for sure.
Get Shorty, the first story in this trio, is the best - showing a wicked sharp sense of humor which, for the most part, overwhelms the plot's drama and suspense. Sadly, the other two stories are pretty lame. The plot of Killshot, in particular, rests on the implausible premise that the Michigan police are unable to track down two highly visible wannabe killers for weeks on end. A Suggestion buy & read Get Shorty separately. Then have fun seeing the movie, if you haven't already.
I loved Get Sorry and the Tishimingo Blues but I took a star off because Killshot is the first Elmore Leonard novel that didn't thrill me. It wasn't terrible but it dragged. I actually was looking to finish which has never been the case with any of his other novels. But the first two were absolutely delightful. Great fun, fast paced and great action.
I've only gotten through the first book (Get Shorty) and it was a wonderful read. When I would have to put it down, I couldn't wait to get back to it again. I even recently saw the movie for the first time and still found the book to be a great page-turner with Leonard's writing always bringing a smile to my face. I'm looking forward to reading the other two novels. With three books in the package, this is a great value too!
Bless Elmore. He always ties up the loose ends, and doesn't disappoint his readers. The bad guys have their reckoning, as you feel will happen from the start. The unbearably self absorbed mother in law is a pain in the ass, as well as the stupid Marshall. Frustrating to see the characters make so many dumb mistakes. A little repetitious and drags too much in places. But overall, an enjoyable read.
I can see where Elmore Leonard's stellar reputation comes from. These are very "noir" stories, so they won't appeal to everyone, but the writing is just amazing,

"Get Shorty" works on several levels, and I found myself later on realizing how funny some of the scenes had been. How often do you read a story with a straight face the whole time and then laugh out loud the next day? That is how well crafted the story is. What you notice while reading is that it is a really good yarn, keeping you guessing with the twists and turns, but also setting out a bizarre parallel between the world of script-writing and the world of criminality. It really works, partly because Leonard is too experienced to use a heavy hand.

"Tishomingo Blues" also has some odd humor and some subtle symbolism, but mainly it is a nice piece of characterization and a worthy example of inner conflict without any angst.

"Kill Shot" is the most conventional of the three, but also has some nice undercurrents of psychology, both social and anti-social. Once again the real suspense is about the inner nature of the characters, and their nature is not fully revealed even to themselves until their decisions are made.
